Corporate Use of Social Networking

Since the introduction of the internet many years ago, there was not much use for it. We go on, search a few pages then go off, but with the start of social networking; the internet has become much more useful towards the user. Users are now able to use the internet for leisurely activities such as watch videos, meet people, play games and talk with friends. When it comes to using Social Networks as a corporate use, it has been a growing trend.

Such a trend has led to Cisco as a corporate company with the use of social networking. They have created a fan page on Facebook, whereby users can like the company and receive updates from the company when certain things are posted on the wall.  Cisco uses a blog to introduce to its users of its hardware, all sorts of information that may improve on the usage of their hardware. When it comes towards companies having a use for social network, it can greatly promote and receive the crucial feedback from its users where certain areas need improving and fixing. Whilst it can help build the company’s reputation, a simple mistake could easily reverse it and staff will be held responsible for their actions. As mentioned by Laurel Papworth on her blog, she provides a list of 40 social media staff guidelines, to help staff not make the mistake.

Also in this video it talks about how employers are worried about unauthorized information being disclosed to the public.

Having to use social network, allows me to connect to friends that I have not  kept in contact with from many years ago, as it allows me to reconnect with them and organize a time whereby we can catch-up. Whilst being able to reconnect with old friends, using the social network takes a fair amount of time and can easily be wasted by always spending time checking what’s going with others.

Good post Eric, many companies these days are creating their fan pages, i think its a great move and really allows them to develop a fan-base for their products.

  2. Good post, I think that social networking sites are not only useful for communicating or interacting with other people on a personal level, but are also a very effective method for many corporations. Social networking sites represent a large pool of information from day to day living, and this allows businesses to tap into the larger market. There is a huge potential in social networking and advertising on various social networks.

  3. Hey Eric,

Great Post! This trend is growing and more and more companies are being exposed to this. I think it’s good for the competition as well as it’s good for the improvement of web businesses.
